Family Fun Day Out Cycling At Punngol Park | welovedayout

It was the perfect weather for a fun family day out cycling. We decided to head out to Punggol Park and explore the vicinity.

The North Eastern Riverine Loop was our cycling route today. It is a 26km route that covers the heartlands of Buangkok, SengKang and Punggol.

Punggol Settlement, at Punggol Point Park was our starting point. We rented some bicycles from Jomando Adventure and Recreation and started our fun cycling trip. The place was pretty crowded with cyclists, families having picnic, fishing enthusiasts, children having fun playing at the sandy playground.

Along the way we saw many empty plot of lands that were yet to be develop. So we are sure there will be many changes in the next few years. In the meantime let's enjoy the greenery of the surroundings.

The North Eastern Riverine Loop brought us along the reservoirs and waterways. It was a very scenic ride. The children had fun riding along the meandering paths.

Sunset Strip was a nice place to stop for photo taking. Overheard a young boy mentioning he saw otters in these very waters! So do keep a lookout if you are around the area.

Sengkang Floating Wetland was another pit stop. Here we met an amazing friend peddling in an interesting bicycle, called a recumbent bike. You never know this could be the next big thing to hit the cycling scene in Singapore. We had the privilege to try out the recumbent bike and it was not easy, because the whole balancing dynamics is different from normal up-right biking. But it was fun learning and hearing from a passionate rider.

Dinner was at the Punggol Settlement where we had Peranakan Cuisine. There were many restaurants catered for any cravings that one may have. With a nice breezy night, we were happy to have our meal outdoors.

Mother nature plays a very important part of our life. When we learn to slow down our fast pace of life and refresh our souls with mother nature, we will be able to appreciate all that we have right in front of us.

Safra Families For Life AVventura 2015 | Fun Family Race | welovedayout

Family fun day out at Safra AVventura 2015 Race

Last Sunday was a fun and eventful day for the family. It was our yearly fun adventure race with SAFRA AVventura - Families for Life.

This annual event is open to all families (1 parent/1 child team). You may sign up at their website here for future events. Race pack collection and race briefing was done on Saturday to prepare the participants.

It was a breezy, beautiful Sunday morning as we prepared ourselves for the race. Had early breakfast and headed off to SAFRA Yishun where the event was held. On a side note for all Singapore NSmen, if you are not a safra member yet, have a look at their portal as they have a lot of activities for all ages and is not too expensive to be a member. Their facilities are as good as private country clubs too.

As the flag off time was 9.00am, we were there early to mingle around with other participants. It was nice to see many parents out there getting their kids to be active instead of being stuck with electronics at home.

At 9.00am sharp, off went the horn, and off went the enthusiastic children. There were 2 categories in the kids race. The 'Ultra Kids' (11-15yrs old) and the 'Super Kids' (7 - 10yrs old) categories. Not forgetting the other categories like 'Youth', 'Sprint' and the 'Ultra' adults categories.

It was a fun race of running around and completing challenges for both categories. The challenges include blowing balloon till burst, bouncing ping pong balls into cups, air-rifle shooting, rock climbing, abseiling and others.

At the finishing point, the officials will check the completed race passport and the finisher medal will be given to the participants. The children were looking forward to achieving their hard earned medal, hahahaha.

The children had so much fun. As they ended the race with a fulfilling and happy heart, they were treated to FREE 100plus and water. There was a Families For Life truck that provided FREE potato chips, milo, kacang putih (peanut snacks) and many other yummy snacks too. We gathered togther with other families for a snack picnic while waiting for the rest.

The day ended with a tired body but at the same time another wonderful experience as every year the race details changes, so we won't know what obstacles were in store for us. It was all done in good fun regardless of winning. Winning is always a bonus that we learn to appreciate it.

Till the next fun family day out. We would love to share with everyone, more places to bring kids out to have a fun family bonding time. Your support of our blog through facebook or join our site at http://bit.ly/welovedayout is much appreciated. Thank you.

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve | Family Fun Day Out | welovedayout

Family fun day out at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve
Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve Entrance
To make a healthy new start as a family for the year 2015, welovedayout decided to explore the new extension of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.

Located at the north end of Singapore, it was a beautiful nature place to explore with the kids. As we know Singapore is lacking of nature parks, we were glad that Nparks built up this area to conserve it. We started from the new Visitor Centre which is located nearer to Kranji Carpark C.

There were 5 trails in the new wetland extension area. Mainly the 'Coastal Trail', 'Forest Trail', 'Mid-Canopy Walk' and the 'Migratory Bird Trail'.It will not be complete without the 'Junior Adventure Trail' too.

As usual we were stuck at the 'Junior Adventure Trail' for a while as the kids were playing. The children had so much fun at the 'Pulley Boat' challenging each other's speed. 'Step and Jump' was good for the younger ones to learn balancing as they moved from one step to the other. 'Up and Down' was pretty simple for the children as they played catching.

We were pleasantly surprised that much thought and effort had been put into getting this new park extension done up. You will realise that the 'coastal trail' blends together very nicely to let you experience the highlight of what each part offers.

We were glad that it was low tide when we started the trail. We could see many mud skippers, crabs and many others in the mangrove.

We stop by Musang hut for a quick break and that was where we saw a crocodile swimming towards us silently. The kids were very excited as it was their first time seeing a crocodile in a natural setting. It was too fast for our camera to capture the scene, as it decided to submerge once it heard our excited whispers.

There were a few observation pods along the trail and some were wheelchair-friendly too. Everyone in the family will be able to enjoy this healthy bonding activity together.

We continued our journey and arrived at the 'Mud Experience'. It can only be done during low tide, we walked along the descending rope bridge till we reached the mud flats. Only chance you will let your kids walk on mud, all in the name of nature education.

As we reached the last observation pods, rain started to drizzle. We had a quick look around and headed back towards our start point.

We would strongly recommend to head over to the wetland to enjoy mother nature. Lots of things to learn and discover along the way. There are guided tours available too. Do remember to bring along mosquito repellent and umbrella as sometimes there are unexpected rainfall. Wear comfortable shoes to enjoy the hiking too.
